A driver has been ticketed and had their vehicle impounded after being caught travelling at nearly twice the speed limit in West Kelowna.
RCMP say the vehicle was stopped April 1, 2026 after being recorded at 175 km/h in an 80 km/h zone on Highway 97 near Boucherie Road.
Police issued the driver a three-day immediate roadside prohibition and impounded the vehicle for seven days.

The driver also received tickets under the Motor Vehicle Act for excessive speed and driving contrary to restrictions, as well as under the Liquor Control and Licensing Act for having open liquor in a vehicle.
During the stop, officers also seized a quantity of alleged illegal tobacco under the Excise Act.
“Travelling at speeds more than double the posted limit creates a significant risk to everyone using our roadways,” said Cpl. Tyrone Wilton of the West Kelowna RCMP Traffic Section.
Police say excessive speeding can lead to immediate roadside prohibitions, vehicle impoundments and significant penalties.
