The highway was closed for several hours after a serious accident.
(UPDATE: Dec. 26 @ 6 pm) - Hwy 1 has reopened through the Fraser Canyon after being closed Friday afternoon due to a vehicle incident.
However, Hwy 97 remains shut down in both directions just north of Cache Creek and DriveBC does not expect another update until 8 pm.
The snowfall warning previously in place for Hwy 97 to the north of the current closure was recently rescinded.
(Original story: Dec. 26 @ 3 pm) - Winter weather continues to pound BC Interior highways and a pair of routes are closed as a result.
According to DriveBC, Hwy 1 is shut down due to a vehicle incident through the Fraser Canyon, while Hwy 97 is closed due to a vehicle incident just north of Cache Creek.
Motorists are reporting brutal driving conditions on Hwy 1, with multiple vehicles spun out and traffic at a standstill in multiple spots.

To the north on Hwy 97, the speculation is that it will be a lengthy closure due to the emergency response to the crash.
A snowfall warning is in place for Hwy 97 to the north of where the crash happened today.
A separate snowfall warning covers various parts of Hwy 1, but the Fraser Canyon is not included.
